AAPSU disappointed with Govt’s ‘indifferent attitude’

ITANAGAR, Aug 28: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union   (AAPSU) expressed disappointment over the indifferent attitude shown by the state government towards late Pate Tasuk, the brave soldier who lost his life while fighting against enemy of the nation in Jammu and Kashmir on August 25.

In a release AAPSU President Takam Tatung stated that the cold response shown to the supreme sacrifice by the state government on the arrival of the mortal remains of Late Tasuk yesterday will demoralize youth of the state in joining the arm forces to serve our nation.

“It is quite disheartening to see that authorities are not showing any respect to the deceased soul. When his body arrived no one from state government came to receive at the helipad. This is complete disregard to the martyr who sacrificed his life for the nation,” said Takam Tatung.

“The Chief Secretary being head of the bureaucrats should have taken some initiative in this whole issue. Being a local Arunachalee, we expect him to be more concern towards issues related to interest of Arunachal,” stated Tatung. He further added, “We appreciate Governor J J Singh for sending his representatives but his effort seems half hearted. Coming from army background, he should have shown more compassionate to late Tasuk. Why didn’t he himself go to the helipad to receive the body. Was he so busy that he had no time to pay respect to fellow soldier who laid down life for the country?”

AAPSU also questioned how did no one from administration come to the helipad. “It is duty of Resident Commissioner at Delhi and DRC at Guwahati to inform state government in this regard. We want to know whether there was any mis-communication which leads to this impasse. Erring officials should be punished for showing disrespect to the soul of soldier,” stated Tatung.  However, AAPSU appreciated the officials of Indian army for showing utmost respect to body of late Tasuk.

Forum flays Govt apathy

Arunachal Pradesh Colleges’ Forum (APCF) expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of Govt representatives in Naharlagun helipad to receive the body of brave solider late Pate Tasuk yesterday.  Large number of relatives of late Tasuk and few jawans with khaki uniform were present outside the helipad ground, but there was none from Govt side to receive the body, it resented.

BJP demands Govt service to Tasuk’s  relative

While appreciating the State Government  for deputing a  chopper from Guwahati for carrying the body of the brave soldier to Naharlagun and announcing ex-gratia, BJP said it was unfortunate to learn that  no officials from the concerned district administration or from the state government  turned up to receive the body at Naharlagun helipad.

The party, however, called upon the state Govt, to allot a suitable plot of land within state capital and provide Govt service to one of the family members of late Tasuk as a recognition to bravery of the soldier who laid down his life at the altar of duty.

Ranganadi project affected people cry for justice

Taba Ajum

ITANAGAR, Aug 28: While state government is busy in penning memorandum of agreement/ memorandum of understanding with various hydropower developers for starting hydro projects in Arunachal Pradesh, project affected people of 405 MW Ranganadi hydro projects are still crying for the justice.

The downstream project affected citizens under the banner of Lichi Cher village Ranganadi Project Affected Area Management Committee has been fighting against NEEPCO authorities for last many years without much success. They have been submitting memorandum after memorandum seeking attention of NEEPCO authorities towards problem faced by them because of the effect of Ranganadi Project. However NEEPCO authorities never paid heed to their problems. Ever since this project was commissioned, life has changed for bad for the people of downstream affected citizens.

“NEEPCO authorities release water from dam without any warning. We have lost couple of precious lives in the past because of such careless attitude of NEEPCO. Our domestic animals are being washed away whenever water is released. We live in constant fear as our children sometimes go to river for swimming during summer season,” shared Tarh Takam, resident of Cher village. He further informed that because of the blocking of the flow of Ranganadi River it has badly affected various aspects of life in the area. “There is no more fish in the river. During summer whenever NEEPCO releases excess water from dam it leads to flooding of our downstream area. This has led to massive erosion and our villages are at danger of getting vanished due to such erosion,” said Tarh Takam.

Villagers further complained that whenever they protest to authorities about domestic animals being washed away by Ranganadi water, they always ask for proof. “Couple of times I had lodged complaint regarding domestic animal being washed away when water is released. Quite surprisingly they asked me to show proof. How can I show proof as animals have been washed away in water,” said Lishi Yari another resident of Cher village. While electricity generated from 405 Ranganadi hydro project is being supplied across India, downstream project affected people still do not get 24 hours electricity facilities.

Frustrated with non-cooperative attitude of NEEPCO authorities on numerous problems faced by them, finally Lichi Cher village Ranganadi Project Affected Area Management Committee have decided to launch agitation against NEEPCO. Their single point agenda is demanding release of 50% water into downstream by the concern authorities. They have given 15 days ultimatum failing which they will resort to democratic means with first phase of 48 hours road blockade of Kimin to Potin road on 8th September. This will followed by 72 hours bandh on 25th September and last phase of one-week bandh from 5th October.

Tuki showers praises on Rahul

ITANAGAR, Aug 28: Appreciating AICC General Secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi for his Friday statement in Lok Sabha on Lokpal Bill, APCC President Nabam Tuki today said that the path shown by the young leader would not only steer the Congress-led UPA government clear of the present situation confronting the nation but would go a long way in showing the right path to every Congress cadre in the country.

Asserting that Lokpal Act alone will not help eradicate corruption, Rahul had disapproved Anna Hazare’s fast, saying ‘individual dictates’ must not weaken the democratic process as dangerous precedent could be set.

Rahul Gandhi was very clear in his concept and thought during the debate, which reflected that he has transformed from his social profile to political profile in his own right, Tuki said, adding that his (Rahulji’s) view that corruption is pervasive which operates at every level and “we cannot wish away corruption by the mere desire to see it removed from our lives. This requires a comprehensive framework of action and a concerted political programme supported by all levels of the state from the highest to the lowest”, only mirrored his political maturity, Tuki said.

“Most importantly,  it requires firm political will’  was his message for the rank and file of the Congress who need to rise to the occasion to ensure transparency, sincerity of purposes free from corruption, Tuki reasoned.

The responsibility is now rests on our shoulders to carry Rahulji’s message to the grass root level to make the masses mentally prepared to fight the menace and develop the mental will to say ‘no’ to corruption at all level in any form, he advocated.

His love for constitutionalism and traditions of parliamentary democracy vis-a-vis funding of electoral politics only signifies his vision to build a modern and vibrant democracy, Tuki added.

Urine test to detect TB

Testing urine samples for specific chemicals could serve as a quick and painless way to detect tuberculosis (TB), according to Indian researchers. The urine test offers a less invasive diagnostic method for an infectious disease  that causes three million deaths and 10 million new cases worldwide each year. Developing countries account for 95 per cent of new infections and 98 per cent of deaths.

The Delhi-based International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) and the Lala Ram Sarup Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, collaborated with the National University of Singapore to develop the test.

TB diagnosis relies mainly on a test to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis in blood or sputum samples taken from the lung and examined under a microscope.

Developing countries prefer a simple test requiring minimum resources and trained personnel, and one that gives quick and easily interpreted results, the Delhi scientists observed.

Their technique measures five 'volatile organic compounds' (VOCs) in urine that have a low boiling point and vaporise at room temperature.

The team tested the method in 117 fresh cases of TB and found significantly different levels of these chemicals in TB patients, compared with healthy people.

It found a distinct pattern — three VOCs showed higher levels and two lower levels — in TB patients, not seen in healthy persons or in patients with lung ailments such as lung cancer or asthma.

The levels could also indicate the effect of treatment, the team said.

Discourage multiple organisations

Dear Editor,

It is known to all that Arunachal Pradesh is under-developed state in respect of education and socio-economic development as compared to other developed states of the country having diversity in religion, caste, creed, tribes and language and population.

In this transitional phase of development, the Nyishi tribes is counted as the largest tribe in the state covering 4 to  5 districts in population and more number of elected representatives in the state assembly. Having said this, the Nyishi community is no more a backward and illiterate tribe in education, intellectual, understanding, moral and emotional development in the state except road and other required infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, in has come to notice that instead of unifying ourselves in all aspect there is always tripartite movement within the people of Nyishi community. The Nyishis are confident enough to defend ourselves from any socio-political forces without taking help from any third force to build our society. Since the advent of development there were some prominent leaders who brought some changes in our community. Today they deserve appreciation from the younger generation, especially those leaders who are no more with us.

Due to beckon of time and society, the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) was formed as the youth force of the community and today they are rendering service to the community in particular and the state as a whole while the Nyishi Elite Society was also formed to safeguard the community with proper ideology,  as on the date the community accept and recognize these two organizations as our society’s torch bearer, which tirelessly rendered service towards the community and hoped that they will carry on services in the days to come.

But today, it has come to notice that instead of strengthening our well-recognized organizations there is mushrooming formation of Nyishi organization which need proper corrective steps and realization from one and all of the community.

As an individual, I feel, Nyishis do not require any more organization for socio-economic development because for physical development there are elected representatives from various communities in the state and for social and individual guidance one students’ union for youth and elite organization is more than sufficient for one community. Therefore, all educated and intellectuals should discourage such multiple formation of organization in one community for unified and understanding development in every society of the state.

As such, multiple formation of organization implied bad impression in the state in particular and country as a whole. I humbly request the NES, Nyishi Legislators Forum and ANSU to hold interaction in order to streamline our social sanctity and also appeal all former students’ leaders to provide guidance for one organization in the community to safeguard the interest of the society.

Yours’

Nilly Likha Tabo
